What is a medical food?

What does “Under Medical Supervision” mean?

Under Medical Supervision means that the consumption of the dietary supplement (in this case VSL#3) can only be given to a patient receiving active medical care on a recurring basis for the dietary management of the product-designated diseases and for instructions on the use of the medical food.

Are VSL#3 and VSL#3-DS FDA approved drugs?

No. VSL#3 and VSL#3-DS are high potency probiotic medical foods that should only be used under medical supervision. As VSL#3-DS contains 900 billion bacteria, it requires a prescription to obtain it.
